A PART APART - EN DEL I DELE
This is the follow-up album to the 2018 record - ANSIGTETS LAGTE FOLDER - that marked the debut of the recording duo of Martin Lau and Casper Mikkelsen. This time in a more dense and atmospheric setting in contrast to the live-in-studio predecessor.

Initially intended to follow the bare bones sound of the duo documented on ANSIGTET, the recording of A PART PART took on a more more laborious process. Where everything on ANSIGTET is heard as it was played live in the studio, with no otherdubs or editing, A PART APART departs to where nothing is as it was played in the studio.

The outline for the recording was a handful of solo guitar pieces written by Martin Lau. In the studio the pieces was performed with Casper Mikkelsen accompanying on drums. After this was done the guitar recording was deleted. The drum tracks was then used as outset for the next part of the process of recording multiple layers of improvised parts. This created a shadow form where the underlying structure is giving by a piece of music that is not heard - neither directly nor implied in terms of melody or harmony. In effect, the whole record takes on a sort of shadow form where the connections are hidden on a sublevel. Added to this, something much deeper gets revealed through the use of improvising: Initial reaction; thought patterns; musical identity. The concrete solo pieces served as the key that opened the door into the vast space that is the abstract, the impulse, the uncalculated.
